One of the questions we typically get from homeowners when they bring samples to us here at our Austin lab is, “Do we have to remove asbestos containing material from our house?”
The EPA recommends a practical approach that includes locating and identifying asbestos containing materials and then managing these materials in place.
What this means is that if some material that you submit to us contains asbestos you must decide whether to leave it alone or have it professionally removed.
When asbestos containing materials are left intact and undisturbed, they do not necessarily pose a health risk. If the material is in bad shape or if it is likely to be disturbed due to remodeling or repair, then you must consider having it removed. And since the removal process could likely cause asbestos fibers to be released, it should definitely be done by a licensed asbestos abatement professional.
If you have any questions about having materials tested for asbestos, give us a call at 512-258-9114 and we’ll be happy to discuss your situation with you. Or, feel free to come buy our Austin asbestos testing lab for more information.
