Taxodium
Common Species of Texas: T. distichum (Bald Cypress)
The bald cypress is a deciduous conifer closely related to the Sequoia (redwood). They can be found in the swamps of east Texas or next to rivers where they characteristically have cone shaped growths from the roots termed "knees". They bloom from late winter to early spring though the allerginicity of Taxodium, like the function of the knees, is not well understood.
