Salix
Common Species of Texas: S. gooddingii (Goodding's Willow), S. caroliniana (Coastal Plain Willow), S. exigua (Coyote Willow), S. nigra (Black Willow), S. taxifolia (Yew-Leaved Willow)
Willows, found throughout the U.S., are within the same family as the aspens, cottonwoods and poplars. They are principally insect pollinated in contrast to the cottonwoods which are wind pollinated. However, the pollen is also found in air samples from April to May because it is small and produced in large numbers. Willow pollen can be considered a moderate allergen.
