Plantanus
Common Species of Texas: P. occidentalis (American Sycamore)
Sycamores (also called Planetrees) are found throughout the eastern portions of the U.S. and are commonly planted in communities as ornamental trees. Characteristics of sycamores include the patchy, peeling bark and the round, ball-like clusters of flowers. They are wind pollinated and produce large amounts of bouyant pollen in the late spring from April to May. Sycamore pollen is not considered a significant allergen.
