Common Species of Texas: F. americana (White Ash), F. berlandierana (Berlandier's Ash), F. pennsylvanica (Green Ash), F. texensis (Texas Ash), F. velutina (Velvet Ash)

Ashes can be found primarily in the eastern third of the state, though they are planted in cities and neighborhoods throughout Texas as shade trees. The male and female flowers are produced on separate trees predominately in February and March. They shed abundant pollen which has been reported as being moderately to highly allergenic.
