Carya
Common Species of Texas: C. aquatica (Bitter Pecan, Water Hickory), C. cordiformis (Bitternut Hickory), C. illinoiensis (Pecan), C. ovata (Shagbark Hickory), C. texana (Black Hickory), C. tomentosa (Mockernut Hickory)

The genus, Carya, includes pecan trees and hickories. The distribution of hickories is primarily throughout the eastern portions of the United States though some species have portions of their range within the eastern third of Texas. Pecans are more prevalent in Texas where the trees are cultivated commercially and used in landscapes. They typically bloom just after the oaks from March to May with a peak in mid-April. Allergies to pecans and hickories are moderate to severe most notably in the areas where the trees are grown commercially.
