Trichoderma is a common, cosmopolitan genus found in soil, plant material, textiles, paper products, fats and margarines. Some species are even resistant to preservatives.

 

On common laboratory media colonies usually display shades of white or green when they are sporulating, though natural growth characteristics can vary.

 

Trichoderma produces many important toxic metabolites, which control fungal pathogens, as well as cellulose degrading enzymes though human infection is limited.
