Sporidesmium species can be found on dead and living plant material including the woody parts of a variety of trees around the world. For instance, we have isolated Sporidesmium from bulk samples of wood building materials.

 

On common laboratory media, the colonies are effuse, olivaceous, brown, grey, or black, and often hairy or velvety though natural growth characteristics can vary.
