Pyricularia, can occasionally appear in large numbers though it is rare in our outdoor air samples. It is commonly found on the leaves of grasses and other plants. For instance, Pyricularia oryzae has been indicated as the cause of rice blast disease.  

 

On common laboratory media colonies are grey, greyish brown or olivaceous brown though natural growth characteristics can vary.
