
This cosmopolitan genus has been isolated from soil, dead and rotting plant material, paper, damp linoleum, bark, herbaceous stems and even feathers.
On common laboratory media, colonies are green, greenish blue, lavender, dark grey, blackish brown or black though natural growth characteristics may vary.
