Epicoccum is a common secondary invader of the dead parts of plants. It can be found in the soil and on seeds, textiles, insects and human skin.
On common laboratory media colonies can be intensely colored yellow-orange, red or brown and sometimes greenish though natural growth characteristics can vary.
Though not as common as Cladosporium in our air samples, Epicoccum can be allergenic.
