Certain Basidiospores (i.e. Ganoderma, Coprinus) are easily identifiable and can be reported by the genus. However, many of the genera of the division, Basidiomycotina, are not distinctive in our air samples, and are therefore reported as a Basidiospore.

In the teleomorphic (sexual) phase, these fungi have basidiospores contained individually on sterigmata in basidia, and they are individually expelled into the air at maturity.
