Arthrinium

Arthrinium is found on plant material including sugar cane and other grasses.

 

On common laboratory media colonies are usually black or darkish brown, fast-growing, and floccose, though natural growth characteristics vary.  Also, some produce a diffusible red pigment in media. 

 

This genus has been known to cause cutaneous infections and possibly onychomycosis.
